Caltrans announces upcoming full 710 Freeway Closures during the Weekends

Free News Press – Caltrans will continue to close the 710 Freeway every weekend until Monday, October 17, 2011.  This Labor Day weekend the freeway remained open because no roadwork was being completed.

The 710 freeway closures started back on August 5-8.   There will be two closures during each weekend.  The closures begin at 8 pm on Friday and last until 5 am on Monday mornings.

Starting at 8 pm on Friday night, Caltrans will begin closing one lane of traffic until all lanes are completely closed at midnight. The freeway will be in complete closure both ways for road work to commence.  On Saturday mornings at 6 am, the freeway reopens partially with reduced a speed limit of 45 mph.  The freeway then will close again at 11 pm Sunday night with the lanes reductions beginning at 7 pm.

The goal of  the 53-hour sporadic freeway-closures are to help speed-up road repaving efforts.  This $65 million investment will repave the road between Firestone Boulevard to Slauson Avenue.  The funding came from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Caltrans suggests planning alternative routes or avoid travel during the freeway closures if possible.  The agency has created a brochure with alternative routes along with closure information.  They have an online printable pdf at http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist07/sync/cpimages/file/I-710%20Detour%20Brochure%207_11%281%29.pdf.
