La Palma Encourages Planting of New Trees

LA PALMA Calif. (FNP) – The city of La Palma is encouraging residents to plant trees while seeking input for a new general plan.

Not only can homeowners improve the aesthetics of their home, they can also get a $75 rebate for planting a tree. The tree planting program is part of the city’s urban forest initiative.

City officials tell Free News Press that the planting of trees can save energy by providing shade. For that reason, the local utility, Southern California Edison, is sponsoring La Palma’s program. Owners of single-family detached homes can apply for a rebate when they plant a tree in their front yard.

The rebate should cover the cost of staking materials, planting, and the tree. The homeowners will be financially responsible for future maintenance of the trees. For more information on the program contact the Community Development Department at (714) 690-3340.

The city has also begun a process to discuss a city plan. La Palma is seeking input for a plan that should guide land-use decisions over the next 20 to 30 years. The process of creating a plan will allow city officials to explore and compare new land-use concepts.

La Palma has a new online survey that residents can fill out.
