La Palma Sets New Goals for 2013

la_palma_city_hallLA PALMA Calif. (FNP) – The La Palma City Council adopted several new goals for 2013 at a recent meeting. City officials of the bedroom community plan to balance their budget while providing a high level of public safety.

“Over the next year, the City Council will have to make difficult decisions and these goals help ensure those decisions are guided by community priorities and sustain our vision for La Palma,” Mayor Steve Hwangbo said.

The city will continue to maintain their local police department. While keeping spending in check, La Palma will work to improve their local business environment.

Here is a list of the goals set by the city council:

1) Create a proactive economic environment. The goal is to increase revenue by attracting and retaining businesses using what the city called a well-defined “action plan.”

2) Increase outreach efforts. The city plans to improve their community outreach while creating a transparent environment.

3) Reduce expenses. La Palma hopes to cut costs and balance their budget by reducing personnel costs. They will review their reserves and examine the city’s general fund for waste.

4) Maintain a high-quality of life for the 15,000 residents. Although this is a vague goal, home prices are on the rise making it easier to maintain a high standard of living residents have enjoyed since the city was incorporated in 1955.

5) Maintain high public safety levels. The city council assured residents that they will maintain critical and frontline services.

Similar to a mission statement, this set of goals will provide a framework for city officials to judge future resolutions and measures.
