The Premier League title race is heading into what could be its most pivotal chapter, with leaders Arsenal holding a nine-point advantage over Manchester City as April brings a defining run of fixtures — including a monumental clash at the Etihad Stadium on April 19.

Mikel Arteta's side are chasing the club's first league title since 2004, and with seven matches left, their fate is largely in their own hands. But historical data offers a note of caution: April has been Arsenal's worst month under Arteta and Manchester City's best under Pep Guardiola. City have won 30 of 38 April matches during Guardiola's tenure, scoring 102 goals at a rate of 2.7 per game.

"We need to get a lot of points," Guardiola said. "We have not been consistent enough in the season. We have to win every single game."

Arsenal can extend their lead when they host Bournemouth in Saturday's early kick-off, while City face a challenging trip to sixth-placed Chelsea on Sunday. Arteta urged supporters to rally for what he described as "a big day," acknowledging that every remaining fixture carries increasing weight.

The Spaniard, who served as Guardiola's assistant at City from 2016 to 2019, has finished runner-up in the league for three straight seasons. March — historically his best month and Guardiola's worst — saw Arsenal pull further ahead. Whether that cushion holds through April may determine whether Arteta finally lifts the trophy that has eluded him as a manager.
