Ralph Fiennes has weighed in on one of the most hotly debated casting questions in entertainment: who should play Lord Voldemort in HBO's upcoming series *Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone*? Appearing on BBC's *The Claudia Winkleman Show*, Fiennes revealed he had once expressed interest in reprising the role he played across five of the original eight films. "I said, 'Yes, I'd love to,'" he recalled. "But then nothing's happened, and I think that ship has sailed."
Instead, Fiennes threw his support behind Tilda Swinton, the Oscar-winning actress known for *Michael Clayton*, *The Chronicles of Narnia*, and *The Room Next Door*. "Tilda Swinton was mentioned somewhere as being a contender, and I think she would be amazing," he said. Swinton would not be the first woman considered for the role, but her reputation for transformative, otherworldly performances makes her a natural fit in the eyes of many fans.
The Voldemort role remains one of the last major parts to be cast in the ambitious reimagining of J.K. Rowling's seven-book series. The ensemble already includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Nick Frost as Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. Francesca Gardiner serves as showrunner with Mark Mylod directing several episodes. The series is set to premiere Christmas 2026 on HBO and will stream exclusively on HBO Max.
