Saturday Night Live UK has landed two of Britain's brightest stars for its next run of episodes. Nicola Coughlan, best known for playing Penelope Bridgerton in Netflix's global hit, will host on April 25, with Foo Fighters serving as musical guest. Aimee Lou Wood, the BAFTA-winning breakout from Sex Education and The White Lotus, follows on May 2 alongside musical act MEEK.
Both picks lean into the show's strategy of booking hosts with sharp comedy instincts. Coughlan already made a cameo in the series premiere, appearing alongside that week's host Tina Fey in a sketch with George Fouracres. Wood, meanwhile, brings a more complicated relationship with the SNL franchise. She previously called the American version "mean and unfunny" after a sketch in which Sarah Sherman mocked her teeth in a White Lotus parody. Sherman later apologized.
The announcement comes during a scheduled break for the show, meaning the episodes won't air for another 11 days. According to Deadline, the first four installments — hosted by Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed, and Jack Whitehall — have been generally well received, though ratings have slipped with each outing.
Whitehall's most recent episode featured a pointed cold open targeting Melania Trump, played by Emma Sidi, who reassured confused south London barbecue guests that she was definitely not friends with Jeffrey Epstein. His opening monologue mined his upcoming wedding to model Roxy Horner for laughs. "It's like planning a royal wedding," Whitehall quipped. "The whole thing could be ruined if my uncle turned up."
With Coughlan riding the wave of Bridgerton's massive global audience and Wood fresh off White Lotus buzz, SNL UK appears to be betting that star power can reverse its viewership slide heading into May.
