Sony is bringing one of gaming's most revered titles to theaters. During its CinemaCon presentation on Monday, the studio announced that Bloodborne — the punishingly difficult gothic horror game from FromSoftware — is being developed as an R-rated animated feature film.
The project is a collaboration between PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation, with Lyrical Media co-financing alongside Sony. In a notable move, content creator Seán "Jacksepticeye" McLoughlin, who commands over 48 million followers across platforms, has been tapped as a producer. McLoughlin has spent years playing and discussing the game, making him a natural bridge between its devoted fan community and the film's creative team.
Plot and casting details remain under wraps, but the source material offers a clear sense of tone. Screen Rant noted that the original 2015 game follows a lone traveler navigating a haunting, gothic city overrun by twisted mobs and nightmarish creatures. Its deeply layered lore and extreme difficulty have kept fans theorizing for over a decade. The decision to pursue an R rating signals Sony's intent to preserve the game's dark, brutal atmosphere rather than soften it for broader audiences.
Bloodborne joins a rapidly expanding roster of PlayStation adaptations. Sony recently announced a Helldivers movie directed by Justin Lin and starring Jason Momoa for 2027. The studio's track record in the space includes Uncharted, which grossed over $400 million worldwide, Peacock's Twisted Metal series, and HBO's critically acclaimed The Last of Us.
No release date has been set for the animated film.
