Patrick Muldoon, the actor and producer known for his roles on *Days of Our Lives*, *Melrose Place*, and in the 1997 sci-fi film *Starship Troopers*, died suddenly on April 19 following a heart attack. He was 57.
Born in San Pedro, California, Muldoon played football at USC before launching his acting career while still in college. Early television appearances on *Who's the Boss?* and *Saved by the Bell* gave way to his breakout role as Austin Reed on *Days of Our Lives*, which he played from 1992 to 1995 and again from 2011 to 2012. He went on to recur as the villainous Richard Hart on *Melrose Place* for three seasons, as Deadline reported.
On the big screen, Muldoon played Zander Barcalow opposite Casper Van Dien in Paul Verhoeven's *Starship Troopers*. His final film, the crime thriller *Dirty Hands*, is slated for release later this year. Behind the camera, he executive produced a string of features including *The Card Counter*, *Arkansas*, and *Kockroach*, a film currently in production starring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, and Zazie Beetz.
Beyond Hollywood, Muldoon was a devoted musician and the lead singer of The Sleeping Masses. Friends described him as "endlessly generous — with his poetry, his humor, and his unmistakable presence," adding that he "embraced each day with a full-tilt, rock 'n' roll spirit."
Muldoon is survived by his partner, Miriam Rothbart; his parents; and his sister Shana and brother-in-law Ahmet Zappa, along with their children. Known as "Bobo" to loved ones, he leaves behind a body of work that spanned more than three decades across television, film, and producing.
