Heavy winds presented an unexpected challenge for attendees of the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California, forcing an emergency evacuation on Saturday night. Festival organizers paused performances due to the dangerous wind conditions, disrupting the schedules of several high-profile acts.

The decision to evacuate came shortly after Little Big Town began their set on the Mane Stage. As the winds intensified, they scattered debris across the Empire Polo Club, impacting visibility and safety. Festival-goers were alerted via large screens requesting an evacuation, causing approximately 75,000 attendees to leave the area and seek shelter.

Variety reported that the high winds forced the temporary closure of food stalls and other facilities. Performances, including those by Journey and Riley Green, were canceled as the festival grappled with the weather. An emergency weather advisory had anticipated gusty conditions, but the severity caught many off guard.

Just over an hour after the initial evacuation order, the festival announced it would resume under revised conditions. Stagecoach's app and social media platforms posted updates, confirming that Lainey Wilson's headlining set would begin at 10:30 p.m., delayed by an hour. Supporting acts, such as Gavin Adcock and Pitbull, faced rescheduling challenges, with new times extending late into the night.

Attendees expressed frustration and confusion online as they grappled with the chaotic exit and re-entry procedures. Some festival-goers, already halfway to their accommodations, expressed dissatisfaction with the late reversal from organizers, especially those who traveled long distances to attend.

Billboard reported on the widespread discontent, highlighting comments from attendees who called out the festival's response timing. As people navigated back to the venue, some took to social media to discuss the possibility of seeking refunds due to the inconvenience and missed performances.

Despite the disruption, the festival continued into the night once the winds subsided to safe levels. Lainey Wilson opened her delayed set with "Can’t Sit Still," energizing fans who managed to return. The festival looked to bounce back for its third and final day, with Post Malone scheduled to headline.

As Stagecoach attempts to manage both fan expectations and weather unpredictability, the incident underscores the ongoing challenge of holding large-scale outdoor events in vulnerable environments. Moving forward, the focus will be on enhancing communication and contingency plans to prevent similar disruptions in future editions of the festival.
