A weather emergency briefly shut down Stagecoach on Saturday night, but it didn't stop David Lee Roth from taking the stage.
Roth joined Teddy Swims during the singer's set at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California, for a performance of "Jump," Van Halen's iconic 1984 single. The appearance came after high winds swept across the Empire Polo Club earlier in the evening, triggering an emergency evacuation of the festival grounds.
An "emergency evacuation" message appeared on screens across the site, instructing attendees to move quickly to the nearest exits. Alerts through the festival's official app directed festivalgoers to leave the area. The disruption knocked several acts off the schedule, including Journey and Riley Green. The Mane Stage was between sets when the evacuation notice went out.
Once the festival reopened, Swims' set proceeded. He brought Roth onstage after performing his recent single "Mr. Know It All" and "Some Things I'll Never Know," both from his debut studio album I've Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1), released in September 2023. Roth's entrance drew one of the night's biggest reactions.
The pairing was not spontaneous. According to Billboard, it marked the third consecutive festival appearance for the two performers. Swims had also brought Roth out during sets at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, held at the same Empire Polo Club site, where he introduced the rock veteran as being from "the best band of all time, Van Halen" before they launched into the same song.
Stagecoach is one of the largest country music festivals in the United States and draws tens of thousands of attendees each year. Despite its country focus, the Roth cameo fit the festival's tradition of surprise crossover moments that draw broader rock and pop audiences into the mix.
Winds had been building throughout the day under a regional wind advisory, with gusts intensifying into the evening before the evacuation was called. By the time Swims closed his set with Roth at his side, the grounds had refilled and the moment landed as one of the more memorable of the weekend, weather and all.
