Jason Priestley is staying on The CW. The network has picked up "Private Eyes West Coast," a spinoff of the Canadian detective comedy-drama "Private Eyes," with Priestley starring and serving as executive producer.
Priestley and Cindy Sampson, known to many from her run on "Supernatural," reprise their roles as private investigators Matt Shade and Angie Everett. The original "Private Eyes" ran for five seasons in Canada, and this spinoff was first greenlit by Corus Entertainment, which has already renewed it for a second season before the first has aired in the United States.
The ten-episode series relocates Shade and Angie from Toronto to the West Coast. Their new quiet life unravels quickly when a night out puts them at the scene of a murder, with a woman standing over her dead boyfriend holding a bloody steak knife. Convinced of her innocence, the two dive back into investigative work in an unfamiliar city, without the network of sources they had built over years in Canada.
Cases across the season include tracking a missing student through the wilderness of British Columbia and extracting a murder confession from a surfer in Tofino. Priestley also directs two episodes.
The show is produced by Piller/Segan, the same team behind "Wild Cards," the most-watched scripted series currently on The CW, also starring Priestley. Lionsgate Canada co-produces and holds international distribution rights.
"We are thrilled to welcome Private Eyes West Coast to our fall lineup and to continue working with the immensely talented Jason Priestley on another CW series," said Brad Schwartz, President of The CW Network, in a statement reported by Deadline. He cited the chemistry between the two leads and credited the Piller/Segan team with building the show's appeal.
The series is set to air later this year.
