The New York Mets placed center fielder Luis Robert Jr. on the injured list Thursday with a lumbar spine disk herniation, adding another name to a growing list of position players the club has lost to injury this season.
Robert was placed on the IL Thursday morning. The back condition is among the more serious diagnoses a player can receive, as disk herniations can linger and prove difficult to manage during the grind of a baseball season.
The Mets have now dealt with a string of position player injuries, though the club has not specified a timeline for Robert's return.
