WWE Backlash takes place Saturday night at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida, with five matches on the card and at least two title belts on the line. The first major pay-per-view event since WrestleMania 42 carries significant stakes for several of the company's top storylines heading into the summer.
The main event sends Roman Reigns into his first title defense since winning the world heavyweight championship from CM Punk in the WrestleMania 42 main event. The challenger is Jacob Fatu, Reigns' cousin, who goes by "The Samoan Werewolf" and issued his challenge the night after WrestleMania. Fatu has used the Tongan Death Grip on Reigns multiple times in the weeks since, and the feud has turned increasingly physical leading into Saturday.
CBS Sports wrestling analysts Brent Brookhouse and Shakiel Mahjouri both picked Reigns to retain the title in that match.
The second title match features United States champion Trick Williams defending against Sami Zayn. Williams took the belt from Zayn at WrestleMania 42. The rematch comes in what CBS Sports describes as a disjointed feud built around an unusual storyline involving a deceased gingerbread man. Zayn is described as undergoing a slow-heel turn as fan support for him has cooled, while Williams has been caught in an undefined tweener role. Both Brookhouse and Mahjouri picked Williams to retain.
Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker are also scheduled to meet Saturday. The match was originally expected to happen at WrestleMania before injuries to both men pushed it back. Breakker has had the upper hand on Rollins in recent weeks, and both CBS Sports analysts picked Breakker to win and continue building toward a bigger role in the company.
The long-awaited match between Asuka and Iyo Sky is also on the card. The two Japanese stars have been feuding for months, with many fans expecting them to collide at WrestleMania. WWE extended the rivalry further and placed the bout in a featured spot at Backlash instead. Both women, according to CBS Sports, could benefit from a clean resolution to stabilize their positions on the roster.
Backlash 2026 begins Saturday night in Tampa.
