Ice Cube and Mike Epps are bringing the Friday universe to a stage for one night only. The two stars announced a hip-hop and comedy event at the Long Beach Amphitheater on July 17 to mark the 30th anniversary of the 1995 film, according to Billboard.
The show is titled Everyday's Friday: Lyrics, Loungin' and Laughing. Musical guests will include Warren G and Scarface of the Geto Boys. A lineup of comedians will also appear, though specific names have not yet been announced.
"Friday has always been about and for the fans who made it a classic and kept it alive for nearly 30 years," Cube said in a statement. "To be able to step back out there with Mike Epps and bring that energy to the stage for a one-night-only experience in Long Beach is special. This show represents the beginning of the next chapter."
Epps, who joined the franchise in the 2000 sequel Next Friday, echoed that sentiment. "Every day for the last 30 years someone has told me how much they loved the Friday franchise and how much the characters mean to them," he said. "To reunite with Cube and bring this one night only experience to the fans is incredible."
The original film was directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Cube and DJ Pooh. It starred Nia Long, Tiny Lister, Regina King, Bernie Mac and John Witherspoon alongside Cube and Epps. The franchise has since grown to include Next Friday, Friday After Next and Friday: The Animated Series. Cube has been discussing a fourth film, tentatively titled Last Friday, for several years. Both he and Epps indicated last summer that a deal for another installment is in the works.
The show will also feature a costume contest for fans who dress as their favorite Friday characters. First place carries a $2,000 cash prize and an exclusive meet and greet. Second place wins $1,000 and third place $500.
The announcement came days after a notable public moment involving the two. On May 12, Cube threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Dodger Stadium on Ice Cube bobblehead day, and the masked catcher who stepped up to receive it turned out to be Epps.
A Live Nation pre-sale begins Thursday, May 14, at 10 a.m. local time. General on-sale opens Friday, May 15, at 10 a.m. local time.
