The live-action Legend of Zelda film is arriving one week earlier than planned, Nintendo announced Wednesday, moving the worldwide theatrical release from May 7 to April 30, 2027.

The announcement came directly from Shigeru Miyamoto, the Nintendo executive and Zelda co-creator, via a post on X. "This is Miyamoto. I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7," he wrote. "The team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible. There's less than a year to go until release, so thank you for waiting."

This is the second time the release date has shifted, according to Deadline. The film was originally scheduled for March 26, 2027, but was pushed back to May 7 due to production reasons. The latest move brings it one week closer to that original spring window.

Directed by Wes Ball and distributed by Sony Pictures, the project was first announced in 2023. Sony and Nintendo later confirmed Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth in the lead roles of Princess Zelda and Link, respectively. In November, Nintendo revealed that production had begun in what it described as "a lush, natural setting," sharing first-look images of the two actors in character.

The film is based on the video game franchise created by Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, which launched in 1986. The story centers on elf-like warrior Link and Princess Zelda, who team up to fight Ganon, a former warlord turned evil demon king, in order to save the magical land of Hyrule.
