Two Navy jets crashed into each other during an air show performance outside Boise, Idaho on Sunday, sending all four crew members to safety after they successfully ejected from the aircraft.
The two EA-18 Growler jets collided in midair around 12:10 p.m. MDT during the Gunfighter Skies Air Show at Mountain Home Air Force Base, according to the Navy. The base was placed on lockdown following the crash.
"All four of the air crew successfully ejected," Cmdr. Amelia Umayam, a spokesperson for the Naval Air Force U.S. Pacific Fleet, said in a statement. All four crew members were listed in stable condition by the Mountain Home Air Force Base Gunfighters.
Bystander video of the incident showed the two jets flying in close proximity before the collision. As the aircraft fell toward the ground, four parachutes deployed. A plume of black smoke appeared in the footage as the planes struck the ground and exploded.
Umayam said both jets were assigned to the Electronic Attack Squadron at Whidbey Island, Washington. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The air show was cancelled immediately after the collision. The Mountain Home Police Department posted an advisory urging spectators not to travel to the base.
