Holland Christian Girls Win MITCA State Title With 1,807 Points

The Maroons edged Coopersville by 88 points at the Division 2 meet, with Camryn Siegers winning the high jump and multiple athletes finishing in the top five across distance events.

The Holland Christian girls track and field team won the Michigan Interscholastic Track and Field Coaches Association team state meet on Saturday, May 23. The Maroons scored 1,807 points to hold off Coopersville, which finished second with 1,719, in a 16-team Division 2 field.

According to the Holland Sentinel, the MITCA meet pits the top teams in the state against each other but scores like a larger dual meet, measuring which team has the most depth across events.

Holland Christian's Camryn Siegers won the high jump with a clearance of 5 feet, 4 inches. Teammate Sophie Jones finished third at 5-2. Siegers, who is also a multiple state champion in swimming, has been an all-state performer in the high jump.

The Maroons placed multiple athletes in the top five in several distance events. Avery Engbers was second in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:08.40, while Ellery Lampen was fourth at 5:09.94 and Eliana Stob was fifth at 5:10.98. Engbers and Lampen also went third and fourth in the 3,200, running 11:15.04 and 11:19.97 respectively.

Esther Vanderbilt took second in both the 110-meter hurdles at 14.81 and the 300 hurdles at 45.31. Abby VanDusseldorp finished second in the 200 meters at 27.32. Annika Stob was third in the 400 at 1:01.49. In the 800, Layla Geurink ran 2:19.26 for third place and Eliana Stob followed in fourth at 2:20.82.

The 4x800 relay team of Eliana Stob, Olivia Hollebeek, Annika Stob, and Geurink took second with a time of 9:36.39.

In field events, Kate Van Appledorn finished third in the shot put at 38 feet, 11 inches. Kensie Mulder was third in the pole vault at 9-9 1/4. Adalyn Halma was third in the long jump at 16-7 3/4.

In Division 1, Zeeland West's boys finished fourth with 1,156 points. Clayton Ramsdell won the high jump at 6-7, and the team's 4x800 relay of Reid Cousins, Keagan Smith, Jack Gruppen, and Rob Dodd finished second at 8:00.38. East Kentwood won the Division 1 meet with 1,432.5 points. Zeeland East finished ninth with 798.5 points, with Sam Sitesema placing third in the shot put at 47-10 1/4 and second in the discus at 155-10.
