Creature Commandos season 2 will not arrive in 2026. James Gunn made that clear in a recent post on Threads, pushing the animated series into 2027 and hinting that more DCU projects will follow close behind.

When asked by a fan what comes next after Man of Tomorrow, the DC Studios co-CEO wrote, "Well Creature Commandos season 2 won't be long after. And more stuff as well shortly thereafter." The response confirmed that the show, which was renewed by HBO Max in December 2024 before the season 1 finale aired in January 2025, will miss its previously assumed late-2026 window.

According to Screen Rant, the season is currently in production, and Gunn's comments suggest the DCU slate for 2027 could be crowded. Two major Chapter 1 films, the Wonder Woman reboot and The Brave and the Bold, are both in development. Ana Nogueira is writing the Wonder Woman script, while Christina Hudson is working on the screenplay for The Brave and the Bold. Andy Muschietti is attached to direct the Batman-centered film.

The Wonder Woman project does not yet have a director attached. There has been speculation that actress Adria Arjona, who appears in Man of Tomorrow, may be playing Diana Prince, though her role has not been officially confirmed. If that turns out to be the case, a solo Wonder Woman film following Man of Tomorrow would be a logical next step for the franchise.

Gunn's tease of "more stuff as well shortly thereafter" leaves room for several other possibilities. Lanterns, the HBO drama set to premiere August 16, recently brought on a new writer for a potential second season, though no renewal has been announced. DC Studios is also developing an animated series based on Tom King's Mister Miracle, which has not yet received a release date but could fit into a 2027 schedule.

The Brave and the Bold, featuring the DCU's first version of Bruce Wayne, has been in development for some time. Gunn's comments suggest that creative plans for the film may be coming together, though no production timeline has been confirmed.

Separate from the DCU's flagship franchise, Matt Reeves' The Batman 2 is also set for 2027. That film carries its own significance. According to Screen Rant, when The Batman 2 releases on October 1, 2027, it will mark the longest gap between films in the same Batman franchise in the character's entire film history, more than five years after the first installment.

Before any of those 2027 projects arrive, the DCU has a packed remainder of 2026. Supergirl opens in theaters on June 26. Lanterns premieres on HBO on August 16. The Clayface film follows on October 23.
