Azzi Fudd made her first career start for the Dallas Wings on Thursday in a matchup against the reigning WNBA champions, the Las Vegas Aces. The start came after Fudd put together the best game of her young professional career just days earlier.
In Sunday's 91-76 win over the New York Liberty, Fudd scored 24 points and knocked down six 3-pointers. That total doubled her previous season high and drew significant attention around the league.
According to Yahoo Sports, Fudd's spot in the starting lineup was driven in part by an injury-thinned roster heading into Thursday's game. Arike Ogunbowale was listed as questionable due to illness, and Alanna Smith was ruled out entirely, also because of illness. Paige Bueckers, who matched Fudd's 24-point effort on Sunday, was listed as probable with a left leg injury. Zaza James was also listed as questionable with a sprained ankle, while Costanza Verona and Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu were designated as day-to-day for undisclosed reasons.
Through the first six games of her WNBA career, Fudd has averaged 11 points per game along with 1.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and one block. She has shot 44 percent on 23 three-point attempts.
Fudd was the first overall pick in this year's WNBA Draft.
