Holt McCallany, best known for playing FBI agent Bill Tench on Netflix's Mindhunter, has joined the cast of Hyde, a new serial killer thriller now filming in Bucharest, Romania, according to Deadline.

McCallany will play Detective Grimes, a law enforcement officer hunting a serial killer through what the filmmakers describe as a decadent city. The project is described as a noir-tinged thriller and marks another major role for the actor since Mindhunter ended after its second season without a resolution to its story.

The film also stars Nathalie Emmanuel as Detective Doran, who is assigned to work under Grimes during the investigation. Bruce Greenwood plays Henry Monroe, a therapist Grimes is required to see as part of the case, a role that draws out Grimes' past. David Harewood plays Lieutenant Robert Malloy, a supervisor trying to keep the police department functioning under financial strain while also managing Grimes.

Hyde is directed by brothers Graham and Parker Phillips, who also wrote the script. The Phillips brothers are producing through their production company Phillips Pictures, alongside Jason Tamasco and Zak Kristofek of Traction. Executive producers include Cassian Elwes, Keith Danko, and Bailey Rotsky.

The directors released a statement about the cast now assembled in Bucharest. "We're thrilled to be working with such intelligent and collaborative actors. Everyone arrived with bold ideas, strong instincts, and a real willingness to explore and take risks, all against the backdrop of Bucharest, whose architecture and atmosphere feel tailor-made for this twisted tale," they said.

Tamasco and Kristofek also commented on McCallany's casting. "It's a privilege to have Holt join and lead this cast alongside Nathalie, Bruce, and David. We could not be more excited about the team that has come together and the film we're creating here in Romania. We cannot wait for audiences to experience Hyde," they said.

For McCallany, the role continues a stretch of prominent film and television work following Mindhunter. He recently appeared as Secretary of Defense Bernstein in Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, and as Neil Bishop in season 3 of The Lincoln Lawyer. Hyde represents a return to the serial killer investigator territory that defined his most recognized television work, though now in a feature film format.

Mindhunter, which dramatized the founding of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit and featured conversations with real serial killers from the 1970s and 1980s, ended after its second season despite strong critical reception. A third season has never been announced, and the fate of the story remains unresolved.
