Singer Sabrina Carpenter filed a civil harassment restraining order on May 29 against a man she alleges tried to force his way into her Los Angeles home earlier in the month. The alleged stalker, William Applegate, 31, is accused of trespassing onto neighboring property and advancing directly to Carpenter's front door on May 23.
According to court documents reviewed by ABC News, Carpenter, 27, states in her declaration that Applegate trespassed onto her neighbor's property to breach the security fencing protecting her home and then forced his way closer to her residence and advanced directly to her front door. She alleges that Applegate physically grabbed the lever of her front door and forcefully pushed it down, actively trying to force his way inside her home without any invitation, permission, or consent whatsoever.
A member of Carpenter's security team intervened and physically removed Applegate from the door, but court documents say he still refused to comply and remained on the property until LAPD officers arrived.
Detective Peter Doomanis of the Los Angeles Police Department wrote in a separate declaration that Applegate was placed under arrest and taken into custody for criminal trespass in violation of California Penal Code section 602(m), which makes it a misdemeanor to enter and occupy real property or structures without the consent of the owner. Doomanis also wrote that Carpenter was in genuine fear for her personal safety at the time of the incident and continues to fear for her safety to this day.
What followed the arrest made the situation more alarming for Carpenter and her security team. After Applegate was released, he returned to the area near her home on both May 24 and May 25, according to court declarations from Carpenter's private security guards.
Private security guard Jorge Lepe said in his declaration that on the morning of May 24, he observed an SUV pull up in the area near Carpenter's gate and activate its hazard lights. He wrote that he observed an individual matching the description of William Applegate exit the SUV and walk toward a parked silver Toyota Prius. According to Lepe, the individual got into the Prius, fell asleep for two hours, and then re-parked approximately 30 feet from her driveway. When Lepe approached and asked if he could help, Applegate allegedly replied, "No just chilling in my car," before driving away.
A second security guard, Hasan Brown, submitted a separate declaration stating that on May 25 at 12:30 p.m., he observed an individual he believed to be Applegate parked in a vehicle approximately 10 feet from the pedestrian entrance to Carpenter's home.
The Espresso singer is seeking the restraining order to prevent Applegate from returning to her property. The case is proceeding through Los Angeles courts.
