The Boston Red Sox entered June nearly 10 games below the .500 mark, and the pressure inside the organization is beginning to surface publicly.

According to a report by The Boston Globe, multiple people within the Red Sox organization believe chief baseball officer Craig Breslow could benefit from having his own interpreter. The reporting centers on Breslow's struggles to communicate effectively with players and others inside the club.

The criticism carries an unusual edge given Breslow's background. He played in the major leagues from 2005 to 2017, a career spanning more than a decade that would typically make communication with players and scouts more natural. Instead, according to Yahoo Sports, Breslow appears to lean heavily into a different part of his identity. He is a Yale University graduate with a degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, and he was well-known during his playing days for his analytical thinking.

That analytical approach has become a central source of tension. The concern inside and outside the organization is not just that Breslow communicates poorly, but that he has built a front office that is short on experience from the playing side. One anonymous MLB executive said, "People talk externally about not a ton of diversity within the operation in terms of experience."

Boston had hoped that firing manager Alex Cora and his top coaches would improve both results and internal communication. That move has not produced the expected results. Interim manager Chad Tracy has overseen a team that continues to lose, and the club has yet to reach the postseason since Breslow was hired.

Breslow's job is currently considered safe. But the Red Sox have not made a postseason appearance under his watch, and continued losing will likely produce more reports about dysfunction within the front office.
