Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will represent Canada in international basketball over the next three summers, headlining a 23-player commitment group announced by the national program, according to ESPN.

The Oklahoma City Thunder star and reigning NBA MVP is the centerpiece of the roster. His commitment gives Canada one of the most dangerous guards in the world at a critical stretch for the program, which has been building toward sustained international success.

Two notable names are absent. Jamal Murray and Andrew Wiggins were both left off the roster. Murray has been a key contributor for Canada in past international tournaments, and his absence leaves a significant gap in the backcourt behind Gilgeous-Alexander. Wiggins, a former No. 1 overall pick, is also not included.

Canada's national program has grown considerably in recent years, producing an unprecedented wave of NBA-caliber talent. The commitment from Gilgeous-Alexander signals that the program's top players are willing to participate across multiple summers, which matters for continuity heading into upcoming FIBA competition and the next Olympic cycle.
