Weezer will release their 16th studio album on August 21. The band announced Wednesday that the new record, titled Weezer (The Gold Album), is the seventh entry in their long-running series of color-coded self-titled albums, according to Billboard.
The 10-song project was produced by Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume, formerly known as Kenny Beats. A press release describes it as the most violent Weezer album ever. Three of the band's four members contributed songwriting, and for the first time since their 1994 debut, frontman Rivers Cuomo and original drummer Pat Wilson co-wrote a song together.
The album includes the recently released track "We Might as Well Be Strangers," a duet between Cuomo and Karly Hartzman of the band Wednesday. The lead single, "Shine Again," arrived in April.
The Gold Album will be Weezer's first full-length since 2021's Van Weezer. Their color-coded self-titled run stretches back three decades, covering The Green Album in 2001, The Red Album in 2008, The White Album in 2016, The Teal Album in 2018, and The Black Album in 2019.
The full track list includes "Say Yes," "Shine Again," "Don't Make It Weird," "We Might as Well Be Strangers feat. Wednesday," "C.E.O.," "Hoops," "Nowhere," "The Show Must Go On," "Up in the Clouds," and "The LA Sound."
Earlier this year, the band announced Weezer: The Gathering, a fall tour kicking off in September with 32 stops across North America. The Shins and Silversun Pickups will provide support. Weezer also has a festival date in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on June 27.
