Grand Theft Auto VI is still more than five months from its expected release date, but a rumored file size is already getting attention. According to Screen Rant, an insider post from GTA 6 Intel, which has since been taken down, claimed the game will be just under 200GB. Other sources were cited as corroborating the claim.
Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive have not confirmed the figure. Still, the number landed hard with fans, who took to the comments to share their reactions.
Some were not surprised. "People acting surprised like Red Dead Redemption 2 wasn't 120GB and this game's going to have a bigger open world and look better," one comment read. Another user was more relieved than alarmed: "I expected more honestly. Good compression."
For others, the storage question was beside the point entirely. "I mean it's GTA 6," one user wrote. "It can even take all my home storage because I know it's worth the damn wait."
For context, the current record holder for storage space on consoles is ARK: Survival Evolved and its remastered version ARK: Survival Ascended, which require approximately 400GB of free space. A 200GB install would fall well short of that mark but would still rank among the larger game installs available.
Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. There is currently no confirmed PC release date. The last mainline entry in the series was Grand Theft Auto V, released well over a decade ago.
Rockstar is expected to release the game's third official trailer, pre-order details, and pricing information in the coming weeks.
