The remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica opened Summer Game Fest, the annual showcase of upcoming games, which began on Friday. The title is set for a 2027 release, though no specific date was given.

According to CNET, the trailer offered few details about timing beyond the year. Based on the pattern of previous Resident Evil remakes, the game could arrive in early 2027, potentially in February or March.

No gameplay appeared in the trailer. Instead, the footage showed someone being guided by an older European woman to a ransacked room belonging to an American. The person was not identified until the end of the trailer, when it was revealed to be Claire Redfield, the sister of Chris Redfield and the main character of the original Code Veronica.

The original Code Veronica was first released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000. It is not considered a main entry in the franchise, but it is also not classified as a side story. The events of the game are considered canon within the Resident Evil series.

The story follows Claire, who has been searching for her brother Chris following the destruction of Raccoon City. She infiltrated an Umbrella Corporation facility, was captured, and was sent to a prison island in the Southern Ocean. There she learns about the origins of the Umbrella Corporation and a new pathogen called the T-Virus Veronica.

Midway through the original game, players switch from Claire to Chris, who travels to the island after learning of his sister's capture. The two eventually work together to confront twin siblings Alexia and Alfred, who are the grandchildren of Sir Edward Ashford, one of the founders of the Umbrella Corporation.

No platforms were confirmed in the trailer. The game is expected to be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles, and may also come to the Nintendo Switch 2.
