Ryan Rozicki threw everything he had at Chris Billam-Smith for seven rounds Saturday night. It was not enough.

Billam-Smith scored a seventh-round stoppage in the Zuffa Boxing 07 main event, surviving a relentless and at times dirty assault from Rozicki to earn the win. According to CBS Sports, the fight immediately entered the conversation for Fight of the Year as the midway point of 2026 approaches.

Rozicki came out exactly as expected, marching forward from the opening bell and throwing heavy shots to the head and body without much regard for defense. That approach gave Billam-Smith clean looks early, and he made Rozicki pay with overhand rights and a sharp uppercut that appeared to briefly put Rozicki on unsteady legs in the early rounds. Rather than go down, Rozicki kept coming forward.

The tactics turned dirty quickly. Just one minute into the second round, with Rozicki already bloodied from Billam-Smith's right hands, the referee deducted a point from Rozicki for repeated intentional headbutts. He continued throwing his head throughout the fight.

Billam-Smith was the cleaner, more effective fighter through the middle rounds, but the pace began to show on him by the end of round five. That did not stop him from unloading in round six, blasting Rozicki with a sustained assault of power shots. At one point during that round, Rozicki appeared to intentionally drop his hands and invite Billam-Smith to keep hitting him.

Rozicki came back hard in the seventh, landing his own big shots and continuing to absorb return fire. But Billam-Smith closed the round with a flurry of heavy blows. When the bell sounded to end round seven, Rozicki walked back to his corner on unsteady legs.

Before round eight could begin, Rozicki's corner stopped the fight. Their fighter was bleeding over both eyes and bruised on the stool.

The loss was the biggest of Rozicki's career, but his performance drew attention for the sheer volume of punishment he absorbed and the heart he showed throughout. Zuffa Boxing indicated they would welcome him back to the ring.

For Billam-Smith, the win moves him closer to a potential fight with Ring Magazine and Zuffa Boxing cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia, a matchup Billam-Smith has wanted for some time. Opetaia's plans to fight unified cruiserweight champion David Benavidez appear to have collapsed after the WBC ordered Benavidez to defend his title against a mandatory challenger or face being stripped of the belt. Billam-Smith, a former cruiserweight world champion himself, is now positioned as a leading contender in the division.
