Kevin Jonas has a stomach-turning story about how he helped his brother Nick land the woman who would become his wife.
On this week's episode of the Hey Jonas podcast, Kevin, 38, revealed that he served as wingman on Nick Jonas's first date with actress Priyanka Chopra and paid a price for the effort. "I wingmanned hard," Kevin said on the show. Nick confirmed it simply: "He did."
According to Billboard, Kevin then admitted he "threw up in the bathroom rallied" that night, prompting brother Joe Jonas to play a sad trombone sound effect. Kevin pushed back on the reaction. "No, no, no, praise, clap, clap, clap," he said, though he never explained what caused the nausea. Nick backed him up: "It was a pro move."
The date itself has since taken on some significance. Nick noted on the podcast that the couple recently celebrated their eight-year first date anniversary. In December, he and Chopra-Jonas will mark eight years of marriage.
Nick had previously described the evening in more detail. In March, speaking with Therapuss host Jack Shane, he explained that the night out was a group outing at the Hollywood Bowl for a production of Beauty and the Beast. "I was like, 'But let's bring some friends so there's less pressure,'" Nick told Shane. "So it was like a group hang in case it wasn't the vibe. And so she brought her best friend. I brought Kevin and another couple friends of ours, Greg and Paris, and we had like the absolute best time at the show."
After the show, the group went out for drinks. That's when Joe, calling in from somewhere else in the world, sent the group shots of milk, which may account for Kevin's later distress.
Kevin's wingman tactics reportedly involved heavy-handed compliments. "He was overly hyping me up though," Nick said. "You know, someone bringing up like baseball or something, Kevin would be like, 'Oh, Nick could have gone pro. He could have been a pro baseball player.'" Nick described that as "the most Jersey thing ever" while also calling it sweet.
Chopra noticed the effort. "She obviously was like, 'Your brother's really like gassing you up,'" Nick recalled. "I was like, 'He wants this to go well.' And then it did. We French kissed that night."
Nick Jonas is currently on the road with his solo tour, A Night With Nick, with a stop at the Tabernacle in Atlanta scheduled for Wednesday, June 10.
