The Night Manager will pick up exactly where it left off. Star Tom Hiddleston confirmed the season 3 timeline in a recent interview, telling IndieWire that the new season begins at the precise moment season 2 ends: Jonathan Pine injured and alone in a jungle, with no rescue on the way.
Season 2 set up a significant shift in power between Pine and his longtime adversary Richard Roper, played by Hugh Laurie. The season's fourth episode revealed that Roper had faked his own death, and the finale left Pine in the jungle after a direct confrontation between the two.
Hiddleston described the situation plainly. "It's a game that Roper won. He has very little in the tank, and nobody to come and rescue him. It's an exciting place to begin," he said.
According to Screen Rant, season 3 is the last confirmed installment of the series, meaning it could serve as the final chapter in Pine and Roper's long cat-and-mouse conflict. The stakes heading in are higher than they have ever been. Roper has faked his death to the outside world, dismantled much of Pine's support network, and emerged from season 2 with the upper hand.
The losses are significant. Among the casualties in the season 2 finale is Angela Burr, played by Olivia Colman, whose death removes one of Pine's most important allies. A civil war brewing in Colombia adds another layer of political complexity that season 3 is expected to explore.
Season 1 of The Night Manager was adapted from John le Carré's novel of the same name. Season 2 was an entirely original story using the same characters, which allowed the narrative to flow directly from one season into the next. Season 3 is expected to continue that approach.
No premiere date for season 3 has been announced.
