Tommy Fury and former World's Strongest Man Eddie Hall are set to meet in a boxing match Saturday in Manchester, and neither the sport nor the opponent was part of the original plan.
According to BBC Sport, Hall had initially challenged Tyson Fury, Tommy's older brother and former heavyweight champion, to an MMA fight. The challenge shifted, the sport changed, and Tommy Fury ended up as Hall's opponent instead.
The two men described the circumstances as unusual. The bout is scheduled for six rounds of two minutes each. Hall, best known for winning the World's Strongest Man competition, is making the transition into competitive boxing for the fight.
Tommy Fury, 27, has fought professionally since 2018 and gained wider public attention beyond boxing through his appearance on the British reality series Love Island. He defeated YouTube personality Jake Paul in a split decision in 2023, one of the more high-profile bouts of his career to date.
Hall, a British strongman competitor, won the World's Strongest Man title in 2017 and has since pursued various combat sports ventures. His entry into boxing follows a pattern of strongman and combat sports crossover events that have drawn significant pay-per-view interest in recent years.
The Manchester fight card is scheduled for Saturday.
