Two undefeated teams met Thursday night in Guadalajara with major implications for the round of 32. Mexico faced South Korea at Estadio Guadalajara with both sides carrying wins from their opening matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mexico opened the tournament with a win over South Africa. Striker Raul Jimenez continues to build his legacy with the national team, scoring 46 career goals to sit tied for second on Mexico's all-time scoring list. Julian Quinones made history in that opening match by scoring the first goal of the 2026 World Cup, becoming the first player from a CONCACAF nation to net a tournament opener. Quinones arrived at the World Cup as the Saudi Pro League's leading scorer with 33 goals this season.

South Korea, managed by Hong Myung-bo, came away with a 2-1 win over Czechia in their opener. The result was described as coming with more challenges than the scoreline might suggest. South Korea's squad includes captain Son Heung-Min, one of the most recognized players in the world, along with Lee Kang-in, who has developed into one of Asia's most creative attacking players.

The odds, according to CBS Sports, listed Mexico at -100, a draw at +226, and South Korea at +295. Mexico carried the slight edge based on home-region advantage and their performance against South Africa. The match was broadcast on FOX in English and Telemundo in Spanish, with a 9 p.m. ET kickoff.

A win or a draw for either side would push them closer to the round of 32, while a loss would leave the losing team needing results to go their way elsewhere in the group.
