HBO's Half Man finished airing two weeks ago, but it has not faded from streaming. The six-part miniseries has remained on HBO Max's top ten list for several weeks running, according to data from FlixPatrol, as reported by Collider.
The timing matters. Emmy nomination announcements are scheduled for July 8, and predictions have placed the show and several of its performers high on the list of likely nominees. HBO has submitted the series in 21 categories, with multiple actors competing within some of those same categories.
The series follows two brothers, Niall Kennedy and Ruben Pallister, through a relationship that spans three decades. Different actors portray each character at different points in their lives. For Lead Actor in a Limited Series, HBO has submitted both Mitchell Robertson and Jamie Bell, who portray younger and older versions of Niall Kennedy, respectively. In the Supporting Actor category, the studio has submitted Stuart Campbell and Richard Gadd for their portrayals of younger and older Ruben Pallister.
Half Man has attracted significant attention, but not without controversy. Critics and viewers have raised objections to the series' violent depiction of the central relationship between the two brothers. Despite that friction, the show has sustained a strong streaming presence and is considered one of the more notable limited series of the current Emmy season.
Competition this year is described as intense, with Netflix, Apple TV+, and HBO all making substantial For Your Consideration bids across multiple categories. Actor Jon Hamm received early disappointing news after being disqualified from his category. Emmy nominations will be announced on July 8.
