Prime Video's Invincible will return for a sixth season, with Season 5 still months away from airing.
Creator Robert Kirkman made the announcement at the Annecy International Animation Festival this week, according to Deadline. The renewal comes as the show continues to build momentum, with Season 4 confirmed as the most-watched season to date, hitting the top 10 in more than 50 territories.
Kirkman also revealed that Jack Quaid, known for his role in The Boys, will join the voice cast for Season 5. At Prime Video's Annecy showcase, Kirkman screened an exclusive clip of Quaid's character, Gravitator, also known as Chris. Gravitator is a gifted engineer who uses his skills for thievery before an encounter with the superhero Invincible changes his direction.
The series stars Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson, the teenager who becomes Invincible, with Sandra Oh and J.K. Simmons as his parents. The show follows Mark as a human-alien hybrid who fights crime under the guidance of his father, Nolan, also known as Omni-Man.
The comic series the show is based on was created in 2003 by Kirkman and Cory Walker, with Ryan Ottley joining as a contributing creator later. It ran for 15 years through Image Comics, spanning 146 issues and selling more than 6 million copies. During a masterclass at Annecy, Kirkman acknowledged that an early Invincible movie script he had worked on was, in his own words, "absolutely horrible" and never got made.
The series has also generated significant attention on social media, with more than 7 billion views on TikTok, according to Skybound Entertainment, Kirkman's production company.
The Season 6 renewal makes Invincible the longest-running animated series to date on Prime Video. Kirkman said the longevity of the show reflects both its fanbase and the teams producing it. "One of the biggest rewards of building Invincible over the years has been witnessing how new audiences continue to connect with these characters and this world, almost 25 years after its creation," Kirkman said. "This renewal is as much a testament to the passion of our fans as it is to the talented teams bringing the series to life, including longtime supervising directors Shaun O'Neill and Dan Duncan, who have done so much behind the scenes to make Invincible a success, and will now help us continue to grow as executive producers. There's still so much story left to tell, and I can't wait for fans to see what's ahead in seasons 5, 6 and beyond."
The Prime Video showcase at Annecy also included previews of The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein, clips from Season 3 of Helluva Boss, and the official trailer for Season 2 of Batman: Caped Crusader. Amazon announced that all 10 episodes of Caped Crusader Season 2 will drop on October 14. The event also gave audiences an early look at Conan the Barbarian, an upcoming animated title with Genndy Tartakovsky serving as executive producer and showrunner.
Season 5 of Invincible is set to air next year.
