Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce appear to be getting married at Madison Square Garden on July 3, according to event, street closure, and tenting permits filed with New York City agencies. The New York Times first reported the permit filings, describing the planned gathering as one of the "biggest events of the summer."
According to a report by Deadline, Big Apple law enforcement sources confirmed that NYPD and Penn Station Amtrak officers have been told the "Love Story" singer and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end are getting married at the arena on that date. The permits were issued to event planners Winick Productions and list no more than "999 attendees" for whatever is scheduled at the venue.
There is some confusion about which roads near Madison Square Garden will be closed for the Friday event. The situation is further complicated by the proximity of Penn Station, ongoing FIFA World Cup tourism, and the approach of July 4 weekend, which marks America's 250th birthday.
Swift's camp did not respond to Deadline when contacted Wednesday about a wedding venue or guest list. However, several members of the Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly booked hotel rooms near MSG for the days just before the holiday.
Not everyone is certain the Garden is the final destination. "Don't be shocked if it turns out to be a small affair far away from the spotlight," an industry veteran close to both Swift and Kelce told Deadline. "Maybe they'll really get marred at the Sphere, they both like surprises, fake-outs," the potential wedding guest added, referring to the Las Vegas venue also owned by MSG boss Jimmy Dolan.
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement online last summer. Since then, speculation has run rampant about the timing, location, and guest list for the wedding. One name that has drawn particular attention is actress Blake Lively, who has Swift as a godmother to one of her children with Ryan Reynolds. Whispers have circulated that Swift would not be inviting Lively because of the press attention surrounding Lively's legal battle with director Justin Baldoni, a case that now appears to be settled.
Swift has a history of surprising her fans in the weeks leading up to major events. On June 9, she surprised attendees at the Los Angeles premiere of Toy Story 5 with a performance of her song "I Knew It, I Knew You" from the film's soundtrack. That same night she also sang a rendition of Randy Newman's classic "You've Got A Friend In Me" with Newman himself. The following day, she appeared courtside at MSG at Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals wearing a custom tee that said "Stevie Knicks" in the font of the New York Knicks, who went on to win the championship.
Madison Square Garden has hosted at least one other famous wedding. Sly Stone married Kathy Silvia at the arena more than 51 years ago, making Swift and Kelce's rumored nuptials a rare echo of that moment in the arena's history. Whether July 3 turns out to be the real date or an elaborate misdirect, the city is already preparing for the possibility of a massive event in the heart of midtown Manhattan.
