Eric Cole posted a 7-under 63 to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the PGA Tour's Travelers Championship on Thursday, according to ESPN.

Cole, who was at the same tournament a year ago under different circumstances, made an eagle from 65 yards on the par-5 13th hole. That shot was a turning point in his round and helped separate him from a crowded leaderboard.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler sits one shot back, along with five other players, all at 6-under. Scheffler has been the dominant player on the PGA Tour this season, making his position near the top of the leaderboard after round one a familiar sight for golf fans.

Cole's 63 matches the kind of scoring that is possible at TPC River Highlands, the Connecticut course that hosts the Travelers each year. The par-70 layout rewards aggressive play, and Cole took full advantage on Thursday.

Three rounds remain in the tournament. With Scheffler within one shot and a large group of players close behind, the lead could change hands multiple times before Sunday's final round concludes.
