Trevor Buhr arrived at Penn State this offseason as part of one of the most active transfer portal periods in the program's recent history. The 6-foot-4, 318-pound offensive lineman is expected to step into a starting role immediately.

According to a player profile from Yahoo Sports, Buhr is projected to start at left guard for the Nittany Lions in 2026. Chimdy Onoh and Vaea Ikakoula are listed as the top alternatives at the position.

Buhr's path to Penn State runs directly through new head coach Matt Campbell. Campbell recruited Buhr out of Washington, Missouri as a three-star prospect in the class of 2023, bringing him to Iowa State as a defensive lineman. Buhr was then converted to the offensive side of the ball after arriving in Ames. The connection with Campbell made Penn State the natural destination when the coach moved to Happy Valley this offseason.

In 2025, Buhr started six of the eight games he played for Iowa State and did not allow a sack in 218 pass-blocking snaps. He earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors at the end of the season. In 2024, he played in 13 games and started six.

Before his college career, Buhr was a standout defensive player in high school. He earned the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year award in Missouri and was a three-time all-state selection. His high school recruiting drew interest from Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Illinois, Washington, Texas A&M, and Kansas, among others.

Penn State enters 2026 with a heavily reconstructed roster under Campbell, and the offensive line is one of the areas where experienced transfers are expected to play a central role. Buhr is among the most established of those additions heading into fall camp.
