Ireland secured a landmark series win over T20 world champions India in Belfast on Sunday, winning the second match of the two-game series by a single run.
Batting first at Stormont, Ireland posted 154-8. Harry Tector scored a half-century in his 100th T20 international appearance after the home side recovered from a slow start, according to Al Jazeera.
Ireland-born Jai Moondra was the standout performer with the ball. He dismissed Sanju Samson lbw off the very first ball of India's chase. He then removed Abhishek Sharma in the same over, and soon after took the wicket of India captain Shreyas Iyer. India regrouped following a rain delay. Tilak Varma scored 55 and Harshit Rana contributed 21 late in the innings, but India finished on 153-9, one run short.
The series result builds on Ireland's victory in the first match on Friday, when they won by 34 runs. That game was described as Ireland's first international men's win over India in any format.
Much of the attention surrounding the series has focused on who was not playing. India's 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was left out of both matches despite forcing his way into the squad. Sooryavanshi was the leading run-scorer in this season's Indian Premier League, amassing 776 runs for the Rajasthan Royals, including one century and five fifties. He was not given a debut in either game.
Sooryavanshi's next opportunity to make his international debut will come on Wednesday in the first T20 against England at Chester-le-Street, the home ground of county side Durham.
