The LA Clippers and Toronto Raptors are in serious trade talks involving forward Kawhi Leonard, according to ESPN. The two franchises have history with Leonard, who won a championship with Toronto in 2019 before forcing a trade to the Clippers that same offseason.
The talks come as the NBA offseason continues to generate major movement across the league. The Raptors have been rebuilding for several years since Leonard's departure, and his potential return would mark one of the more unusual roster moves in recent memory.
While the Clippers and Raptors talk Leonard, another superstar situation is drawing attention in Denver. The Denver Nuggets have internally discussed putting together a trade package for Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown, according to ESPN's Chris Canty.
The backdrop to the Denver interest is the uncertain future of their own franchise cornerstone. NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer have reported that Nikola Jokic could bypass signing an extension this summer, which would slightly open the door for a trade this offseason or the next. One way the Nuggets might convince Jokic to stay is by adding another superstar alongside him.
Canty addressed the Denver conversations Monday morning on Unsportsmanlike. "I would just say Denver has discussed this internally," Canty said. "Keep an eye on what the Denver Nuggets could potentially try to do in terms of cobbling together picks and players to build the package for Jaylen Brown to pair with Nikola Jokić."
Brown won the NBA Finals MVP award in 2024. The Celtics have not made him widely available. According to Yahoo Sports, Brown has only ever reportedly been made available in trade talks centered on Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo, both future Hall of Famers. That signals Boston would demand an enormous return before moving him.
The Nuggets do not have many draft picks to offer, which complicates any potential package. They could include star players like Jamal Murray to sweeten a deal, or try to involve multiple teams to assemble enough assets to satisfy Boston. Neither path is straightforward.
With Jokic's extension decision still unresolved and Brown's name circulating in trade discussions across the league, the coming weeks of the offseason could define the direction of multiple franchises.
