Pierre Yared is leaving his role as acting chairman of the White House's Council of Economic Advisers. President Donald Trump announced the departure Tuesday in a post on Truth Social.
Yared has held the position since September. Trump wrote that Yared "is returning to Columbia Graduate School where he is greatly respected by all." Trump also praised Yared and his team, writing that they "have worked around the clock to Make America WEALTHY Again ā with Great Success!"
Yared has been a professor at Columbia Business School since 2007, holding the title of Professor of International Business in the economics division, according to the school's website.
CNBC reported that its efforts to reach Yared by phone and email at Columbia were not immediately successful. It was not immediately clear who would succeed him in the role.
The Council of Economic Advisers has provided the president with information and advice on both domestic and international economic policy since 1946. As of Tuesday, the CEA's official website still listed Yared as acting chairman. The site notes that Aaron Hedlund, a research fellow at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, serves as a member of the council.
No timeline for naming a replacement has been announced.
