France advanced in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday with a comfortable victory over Sweden in the round of 32. The match was played at New York New Jersey Stadium.

According to BBC Sport, Kylian Mbappe scored twice in the win. Mbappe has been one of the most closely watched players in the tournament and delivered against Sweden with a performance that put France firmly in control.

Bradley Barcola also scored for France. BBC Sport described his finish as coming "emphatically," with Barcola firing home France's second goal to push the margin further out of Sweden's reach.

France's attack controlled the match throughout. The combination of Mbappe and Barcola gave Sweden's defense little room to settle, and the result was never seriously in doubt once France built their lead.

Sweden, who qualified out of UEFA's European competition pathway, could not find a way through France's defensive shape. The result ends Sweden's run in the tournament.

France now advances to the next round of the World Cup. The 2026 tournament is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and the New York New Jersey Stadium has been one of the featured venues for high-profile matches.
