Kid Rock says he calls President Donald Trump late at night after drinking, and Trump always answers. The singer, born Robert James Ritchie, made the comments in a recent interview with Sky News Australia, according to Billboard.
Rock, 55, described his relationship with the president as "f–king awesome" and said Trump sometimes texts him without prompting. "It's one of my late-night drinking tricks because I know when to get him. He's so gracious, he always picks up or he'll call and check in just to shoot the s–t," Rock said.
He added that the calls tend to happen on weekend nights. "If I'm sitting around having some beers if it's like, 11, 12 on a Friday or Saturday, I know he's up. He sleeps like me, he sleeps five hours," Rock said.
Rock acknowledged that Trump does not call him for political advice on foreign policy decisions. He also addressed recent financial disclosure reports showing that Trump and his family have profited by nearly $2 billion during his first year back in the White House, including income tied to cryptocurrency. Rock brushed off concerns that Trump has crossed traditional conflict-of-interest lines.
"No s–t, 'cause he's a f–king businessman, he's smart. He did that before he was President, and I know his heart and soul," Rock said.
Rock has visited the White House, sat with Trump at football games, and taken rides on Army helicopters, which he said were arranged through Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. He told reporter Paul Murray that he enjoys "the hell out of hanging" with Trump, and described having "a front-row seat to the greatest s–t show on earth."
Trump famously does not drink alcohol, making the late-night calls one-sided in terms of the imbibing.
