The Boston Celtics are parting ways with one of their most recognizable players. The team has agreed to send Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks in 2028 and 2031, and two second-round selections, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Brown has spent his entire NBA career with Boston since being selected second overall in the 2016 draft. He was a cornerstone of the Celtics teams that reached multiple NBA Finals, and he won a championship with the team in 2024. The deal marks one of the more significant roster shakeups in recent Celtics history.
Philadelphia gets a player in his prime. Brown is 29 years old and averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game last season. George, 36, has dealt with injuries in recent years and is further along in his career than Brown, making the trade a clear win-now versus rebuild-for-later calculation for both franchises.
For the 76ers, landing Brown gives them a proven star to pair alongside Joel Embiid, assuming Embiid remains healthy. Philadelphia has struggled to build a consistent contender despite years of high-profile roster moves. Adding Brown could change the calculus heading into next season.
Boston, meanwhile, picks up two future first-round picks in addition to George, giving the front office flexibility as it decides how to reshape the roster around Jayson Tatum.
