A boat capsized Friday afternoon near the Sanibel Causeway in southwest Florida, and a crew from U.S. Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach pulled eight people from the water, including an infant and a child.
Responders executed what officials described as a rapid, coordinated effort. Every person aboard was recovered safely. The Sanibel Causeway sits just west of Fort Myers on the Gulf Coast.
According to a Fox News report, officials credited the outcome to the crew's relentless preparation and teamwork. The Coast Guard station released a statement on Facebook following the rescue.
"A successful mission is measured by the lives brought home safely," the Coast Guard station wrote.
The statement went further, describing what made the difference when the call came in.
"When seconds matter, preparation, communication, and teamwork make all the difference," the Coast Guard station wrote. "We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community and thankful that this incident ended with everyone returning home safely. Our thoughts are with those involved, and we're proud of every responder who played a role in this successful rescue."
The Coast Guard noted that the rescue reflects the reason its crews train constantly and stay ready to respond at any hour.
