Taylor Swift married Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden on Friday, July 4, with security locked down around the iconic New York venue as hundreds of celebrity guests arrived for the ceremony.
The guest list, according to Billboard, was extensive. Swift's longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff attended, as did her best friend Abigail Anderson and close friend Gigi Hadid, who arrived with boyfriend Bradley Cooper. Ed Sheeran came with his wife, Cherry Seaborn. Lena Dunham, the Haim sisters, Ellie Goulding, Benson Boone, and Camila Cabello were all spotted heading to the venue. Camila Cabello documented her ride to the event on TikTok.
The sports world showed up in force. Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was seen leaving his hotel along with sports broadcaster Charissa Thompson and former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman. San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle arrived with his wife, Claire. Athletes Kyle Juszczyk, Cooper Kupp, Julian Edelman, Justin Thomas, Chris Jones, Abby Wambach, and New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel were also spotted. From the entertainment world, Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke, Jimmy Fallon, Tommy Hilfiger, Karlie Kloss, Zoë Kravitz, Jason Sudeikis, Julianne Moore, George Stephanopoulos, Graham Norton, Bowen Yang, and Nikki Glaser were among those seen arriving.
The nuptials followed a rehearsal dinner held Thursday night, July 3, also at Madison Square Garden. That event was attended by a smaller group of friends and family. Attendees included Lena Dunham and Gigi Hadid, according to Rolling Stone.
Not everyone on the A-list received an invitation. Comedian Amy Schumer made her absence known through a series of Instagram posts. She shared a spoof outfit for the rehearsal dinner and a still from her TV series Life & Beth alongside co-star Michael Cera. "Rehearsal dinner was sick," Schumer joked on Friday morning. "Who know[s] what she has planned for us?" The second post was captioned: "Okay so why weren't we allowed in?"
Schumer has a history of taking digs at Swift. In 2016, she took aim at Swift's Grammy outfit, sharing a photo of herself and writing, "Taylor, that's not a thigh gap. This is a thigh gap." Schumer later responded to fan backlash by noting, "I am a comic and should never make fun of myself at the expense of anyone else that I wasn't making fun of in the first place." She added, "How about everyone takes a deep breath." Schumer's rep clarified in a statement to People: "[Amy] loves Taylor and was making a joke because [she] doesn't have a thigh gap."
In conjunction with the wedding, The Hollywood Reporter published a list of Swift's most romantic songs across her career, noting that her album Lover is the most represented. The piece traced the evolution of Swift's songwriting from early tracks like "Mary's Song (Oh My My My)" and "Love Story" to more recent material including "Peace," from her Grammy-winning album Folklore, and "Wi$h Li$t" from her most recent album, The Life of a Showgirl. The Hollywood Reporter described the newer track as sticky and sweet, with Swift telling the world to leave her and her love alone while dreaming of having enough kids to have "the whole block looking like" him.
Swift's early songs approached love the way a teenager would, idealistic and focused on working through anything. In recent years, that direction has shifted back toward something close to idealism, with songs like "Wi$h Li$t" reflecting what the publication described as a hard-won sense of peace.
The festivities at Madison Square Garden continued into Friday evening. The New York Times reported that Stevie Nicks was expected to perform with Swift at the wedding celebration.
