The Abbey Road Institute, the professional music production school connected to London's Abbey Road Studios, announced it will open a Los Angeles campus on October 26. The new school will be housed inside Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood, according to Rolling Stone.
Grammy-winning producer and engineer Rafa Sardina will head the campus. His credits include work with D'Angelo, Lady Gaga, Placido Domingo, Alejandro Sanz, Elvis Costello, Rosalia, and Stevie Wonder. Sardina called the new campus "the culmination of a long-held dream" in a statement. "I want to share the invaluable professional experiences of my closest musical colleagues and myself with outstanding new generations of mixers, producers, and other music and music business professionals," he said.
Sunset Gower Studios is primarily known as a film production lot, but it also contains United Recording, a studio complex with sessions in its history from Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Green Day, and Radiohead. Students at the Abbey Road Institute Los Angeles will have access to United Recording's four studios for selected classes.
The Abbey Road Institute launched in 2015 with the goal of training producers and engineers inside working studio environments. Its flagship location is in London. Additional campuses have opened in Paris, Amsterdam, Johannesburg, and Sydney. A Miami location opened in 2020, making Los Angeles the second U.S. campus and the sixth worldwide.
