RB Leipzig are on the verge of signing TSG Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani, with the German club planning to trigger the 30 million euro release clause in his contract.
According to a report by Yahoo Sports, citing Bild, the 23-year-old is expected to complete his switch to Leipzig before the end of the month. Asllani's current contract with Hoffenheim runs until 2029.
Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund were also linked to Asllani before Leipzig moved to the front of the race. Barcelona, however, reportedly viewed him only as a backup option to their primary target, Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. Dortmund faced a different set of obstacles. The German club would need to free up space in both their squad and wage budget before pursuing the forward.
Those complications at both clubs appear to have cleared the path for Leipzig. The move would add one of the Bundesliga's most highly-rated young attackers to a Leipzig side that has been active in the summer transfer window.
Asllani has drawn attention from some of Europe's biggest clubs, reflecting a strong run of form at Hoffenheim. Leipzig's ability to move quickly and trigger the release clause directly gave them a decisive advantage over rivals who needed more time to reorganize.
The deal is expected to be finalized within days.
