Sadie Sink is in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and almost nothing else about her role is confirmed.
The film opens July 31, and fan theories about who Sink plays have been circulating since the first trailer dropped. Speculation has ranged from Jean Grey to Spider-Girl, Firestar, and Gwen Stacy. Sink has not confirmed any of it.
In an interview with Collider's Steven Weintraub, Sink compared the level of secrecy around Brand New Day to her time on Stranger Things, where she starred for four seasons. She said the Marvel production is more intense.
"At this point, it is even more intense," Sink said. "Last season was hard with the coma of it all. I couldn't really say much about Max's fate, so that was kind of hard to keep a secret. But this, I can't even say who I'm playing, which is pretty extreme."
Tom Holland has a well-documented history of accidentally revealing Marvel spoilers, and Sink was asked whether he had slipped anything to her that he should not have.
"No, I don't think so," she said. "But he definitely told me stories of him, I guess, giving away some spoilers, and warned me not to do that."
In the film, Peter Parker has had his identity wiped from the memories of everyone he knows, including Ned and MJ, following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. A new mutation has also emerged in Parker, which may be connected to a threat facing New York. Brand New Day also stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. The film was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
Sink discussed her work with Cretton during the interview, as well as when she first learned about the role and when she gained a clearer sense of what the character would involve. She did not disclose any of the specifics.
The film's July 31 release date is now less than two weeks away.
