Four Scottish clubs now know who could be waiting for them in the next rounds of European competition, after the UEFA qualifying draws were completed. The paths forward depend on results in first-leg matches still to come, according to BBC Sport.
Heart of Midlothian have the most high-profile potential opponents. If they get past Austrian side Sturm Graz in Champions League qualifying, they will face either Fenerbahce of Turkey or Polish club Gornik Zabrze. Both clubs finished as runners-up in their respective leagues last season. Should Hearts lose to Sturm, they drop into the Europa League, where Benfica or St Gallen of Switzerland would await.
Hearts play their first leg against Sturm in Graz on Tuesday. The club has not appeared in Champions League qualifying since 2006-07, when they were eliminated at the third qualifying round by AEK Athens.
Rangers were seeded in the Europa League third qualifying round and have been drawn against Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok. Jagiellonia finished just behind Gornik Zabrze in the Polish league standings last season, separated only by goal difference. Rangers are coming off a difficult campaign in which they started in Champions League qualifying and ultimately finished 32nd in the 36-team Europa League league phase, picking up just one win from eight games.
In the Conference League, Motherwell will face either HJK Helsinki of Finland or Coleraine of Northern Ireland, but only if they first get past Faroese club HB. Hibernian are also in Conference League qualifying, where they will meet either NK Bravo of Slovenia or KF Shkendija from North Macedonia if they advance past Kosovan side FK Malisheva.
Third-round qualifying ties in the Champions League are scheduled for August 4-5 and August 11-12. Europa League and Conference League matches are set for August 6 and August 13. Dates and home-and-away details for individual ties have not yet been confirmed.
