Phil Foden will remain at Manchester City through 2030 after signing a new four-year contract, the club announced.
According to BBC Sport, the 26-year-old's previous deal was set to expire next summer. He has now extended his stay under new head coach Enzo Maresca, who replaced Pep Guardiola after Guardiola ended his 10-year tenure at the club in May.
Foden has made 369 appearances for City since making his first-team debut as a 17-year-old under Guardiola. He has won six Premier League titles, one Champions League, and two FA Cups, making him the club's most decorated player alongside John Stones and Bernardo Silva.
"Committing my future to City means everything to me. Playing for this club is all I've ever wanted to do and it's always an honour to wear the shirt," Foden said.
"It's not lost on me that I've been lucky enough to be part of a historic period with so many titles won, but we're always looking to the future and trying to win more."
Foden also addressed working with Maresca, who served as an assistant to Guardiola during City's Treble-winning 2022-23 season.
"I can't wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the Treble season – someone all the players respected and loved working with."
Foden set a career high in 2023-24 with 27 goals and 12 assists. The two seasons since have been less productive. Last season he scored seven goals and assisted five times in 33 Premier League games. The season before that he scored seven and assisted twice in 28 matches.
His role in the City side changed as the team leaned on Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo wide and Rayan Cherki as the attacking midfield playmaker, pushing Foden deeper and limiting his scoring and chance-creating opportunities.
He was left out of England manager Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad in May. The Professional Footballers' Association responded by saying Foden had been a "victim" of football's packed fixture schedule and that "he has not been the version we saw two years ago."
Foden spent his entire City career under Guardiola. The new contract marks his first under a different manager.
