The Avatar franchise is expanding again. One day before "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender" was set to premiere on Paramount+, the studio announced that a third television series in the franchise, "Avatar: Seven Havens," will debut on the platform on October 9.
According to IndieWire, the announcement came at a San Diego Comic-Con panel on Thursday, July 23, where the first teaser trailer for "Seven Havens" also made its debut. The panel celebrated the upcoming premiere of "Avatar Aang" and was attended by franchise co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino.
The Avatar franchise began in 2005 when "Avatar: The Last Airbender" premiered on Nickelodeon. Created by Konietzko and DiMartino, the series ran for three seasons and concluded in 2008. Set in a fantasy world drawing on ancient Asian cultures, it followed Aang, a young Avatar capable of controlling all four elements, air, earth, fire, and water, as he worked to stop a war between nations. The series drew critical acclaim for its worldbuilding, character writing, and anime-inspired animation before spawning a 2010 live-action film, a 2024 Netflix television remake, and a sequel series, "The Legend of Korra."
Both Konietzko and DiMartino return as creators for "Seven Havens." The new series is set after the events of "The Legend of Korra" and centers on a new Avatar named Pavi, voiced by Saheli Khan, who comes of age in a world that has survived a deadly cataclysm. In this version of the world, the Avatar is viewed as humanity's destroyer rather than its protector, forcing Pavi to go on the run with her long-lost twin sister, voiced by Aishu Devan, as the two work to repair a broken society.
The voice cast also includes Akshay Khanna, Major Curda, Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan, and Dee Bradley Baker.
The series will consist of 26 total episodes divided into two 13-episode books, and all episodes will be released at once on Paramount+. The premiere is set for October 9.
